      HHD password

In reply to Dell Latitude – forgot the HDD password

Seems to me that if you login using the Admin Password, you’ll be able to change or remove the HDD password. If not loggin using the Admin Password and remove the Admin Password, then you should be able to reset.

      You now have a paperweight

In reply to Dell Latitude – forgot the HDD password

If the Admin password does not allow you access to the drive then you MUST have the hdd password. Even if you put the drive in another pc you won’t have access to it (a hdd password is encoded on the disk). You can’t even format it and use it again.

There are some companies that claim to be able to recover hdd passwords and data but they are very expensive and do no guarantee their work. If you really need the data do a search on the net and pick one out.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

      Doc.

        There are programs

        by zlitocook ·

In reply to You now have a paperweight

That can access and clean any drive. As long as it is a good drive. I use two programs that use ether Dr Dos or a low level format. It will clean and allow you to reuse the drive. There is a way around almost every thing and I have had to use most of them in the contracting jobs that I have had.
You can try Bartpe to boot and fix things or Kopix not sure if the the proper way to say it but it can do wonders.

Is a great tech utility that can access any Windows O/S, like XP,2000 OR ME. It boots to it’s own on CD O/s and let’s you fix any problem.

WAIT!!! ERD Commander 2002 and HDD Password Protection 3.0 can help

      by bubbaonthenet ·

In reply to Dell Latitude – forgot the HDD password

It is expensive but how important is your Data? Here is what it does: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,57950,00.asp

I have not tried installing this utility on to a PC then slaving the protected Disk but it also may be worth a shot: http://www.finaldownload.com/utilities_security_encryption_hdd_password_protection.html

You can add/remove HDD Protection using this. I do not know how effective it is with removing the Dell HDD Password but it is affordable enough to give it a try.

Another low tech and cheaper way of recovering files when you do not know the password to the OS is to take out the hard drive, put it on another machine which has NTFS (like your desktop.)

This is effective when you do not know the OS password only. You can buy latptop hard drive adapters for like $10 and put them on a regular IDE Cable (like the kind in your Desktop.)

Using the Desktop you are now able to set security on the disk by taking OWNERSHIP over the disk (which replaces all security to the disk.)

::note it does not remove the internal password from protected files like Word Documents and Excel Spreadsheets::

After your Desktop finishes taking over OWNERSHIP of the new hard drive you are able to browse your wife’s disk’s contents. Hopefully she erased the stuff about that one crazy weekend with the Case of Wiskey, Donkey and the Priest –kidding.

If that fails, there is another way: http://qasimtoep.tripod.com/dell/dell.html

      Check on the internet first

      by dbucyk ·

In reply to Dell Latitude – forgot the HDD password

Check on the internet first through another computer and see if you can find the motherboard manual.

If you can’t, then the only way to fix the problem is by taking the laptop to an electronic technician who specializes in laptop repair.

Have the technician drain all the battery life out of the battery and out of the system (usually there is a charge remaining in the system) This should wipe out any bios changes made.

It will also wipe out any user settings through the bios and they will have to be manually entered.

Hope this is of some help.

      NT Password Recovery

      by kravenlc ·

In reply to Dell Latitude – forgot the HDD password

Use the Offline NT Password Recovery for operating system passwords.
If the password is in the BIOS set up….
      1. Shutdown your pc.
      2. Remove cover from your PC.
      3. Remove the CMOS battery (This battery keeps all of the saved settings for the CMOS setup)
      4. Startup your pc.

After your pc goes online you can then place the CMOS battery back in to the motherboard.
*IMPORTANT Make sure that you are grounded while doing this procedure.

Also, You can access the CMOS setup on system reset, add a new password, Insert the CMOS battery, and then save it to your CMOS settings.

      reset bios

      by matt.covey ·

In reply to Dell Latitude – forgot the HDD password

If you take the cover off of the machine you will find a small plastic component mounted on two prongs. If you remove this, it will reset the bios.

There is a vast number of websites that will walk you through doing this. But you may get a virus or trojan doing this.
If you really need to reset the password contact Dell. If you are looking to get in to a laptop that is locked and it is not yours please look to another website.

There is an advert on TR that blatantly claims a way to show peoples passwords!!!
