DO I NEED A NEW MOTHERBOARD?

By pcguru09 ·
I'M REPAIRING A HP PAVILION a6300f THE OWNER HAS HAD IT FOR ABOUT 2-3 YEARS AND HAS HAD TO CHANGE THE MOTHERBOARD 3 TIMES THAT SOUND A LITTLE FUNNY TO ME BUT YOU CAN NEVER TELL, IS THIS SOMETHING THAT IS NORMAL? WHAT THE PC IS DOING IS I TURN IT ON AND IT SOUNDS LIKE IT WANTS TO BOOT UP BUT THE ONLY THINGS THAT WORK ARE THE FANS, THE POWER LIGHT FRONT AND BACK, NO MONITOR AND NO HD ACTIVITY MEANING NO AMBER LIGHT COMING ON OR FLICKING COULD THIS BE ANOTHER BAD MB OR MAYBE THE POWER SUPPLY THIS TIME. FROM WHAT I HAVE READ ON DIFFERENT POST MOST SAY THE MB IS A CHEAP MODEL OH BY THE WAY IT'S A FOXCOMM MB ANY SUGGESTION?

More info...

Is the case dirty inside?
Did the client attempt to update the bios?
You observe no POST right? Any sign of capacitor problems?
Try connecting the keyboard, power it on, wait 30 seconds, see if caps-lock light works with key.
Try OH smegs post above.
I'm not trying to be mean, but this may be above your head, and the most economical (in terms of time and money) way to fix it is replace the mobo. That's an Intel Dual-core Pentium right? Probably socket 775?

Hi no the case is clean, no post no monitor activity, keyboard does nothing yes it's a 775, I'll probably get a new psu and try that first seeing this is the 3rd MB I'm no sure what the stock MB was or the 2nd w-one was someone else installed that, but this is a foxcomm thank you

I agree on this.

Troubleshooting MB is 15 min. process max (if you got everything ready, including PSU tester). Anything longer - not worth the time and effort.

I think the idea is to keep the posts coming, not getting an answer...

nobody repairs computer hardware because the labor cost to fix it far exceeds the cost to simply replace the component. No one repairs TVs, DVD players, or any electronic component for the same reason.

If anyone asks is my motherboard bad? is my power supply bad, my DVD bad, my hard drive bad, my processor bad, my memory bad, my lights ont he case bad, network card bad, sound card bad, monitor bad, the pat answer should be yes, go buy a new one. and that's that.

if they whim about not able to afford a new one... their just trolls, looking for people who will answer stupid questions for a laugh....

I'm all for learning projects, that's partly how i learned the the things i know. You could probably purchase a new PSU for the price of a voltmeter but if that's not the problem you either need to keep going or accept your loss of $ spent.
It's real easy to spend someone elses money CG IT, to buy a new computer. There is no sense of accomplishment in doing that however.
