By filosetm ·
Using WinXP, PowerDVD player, the DVD playback starts stopping and playing until complete freeze occurs (about 1:40 hrs into playback).
Using Original DVD as well as copies (copies more prone to the freeze)

Using AMD 260XP, GA-7VAXP MB (Updated AGP drvrs and Bios),ATI AIW 8500 Radeon 128MB(updated Drvrs.,
EPO DVD-rom player. 1Gb of Corsair RAM 400mhz.

DOne the DMA enable- but no improvement.

I ahve tried tech support on all the MB, ATI etc, sites without any success.

HAs anyone encountered this problem? any way around it?

I experienced very similar behavior, which I overcame finally by accident when I noticed that my RAM was getting lower voltage than the BIOS settings indicated for it. My 400MHz Crucial RAM requires 2.7V, and was only getting 2.55V when I had the problem with DVD playback (or video rendering) causing crashes after extended periods. Finally, I adjusted the BIOS in increments up to 2.8V, which results in a measured value of 2.68V according to the mobo manufacturer's monitoring software.

Sometimes could be simply that the DVD disc is faulty. Have you tried playing it on other players to the exact scene?

Sometimes the scene or some regions around it will appear distorted. In so doing, most likely its simply a disc fault.
