DVD Recorders with subtitling - suggestions please....!

By gadgetgirl ·
Someone in the UK, in their *infinite* wisdom, just decided to cut the switch on the analogue stream containing the subtitling which Ma and Pa use on their video recorder.

They've been on to the manufacturer of the recorder, and this is the second area which they've cut off without telling anyone! Sheesh!

It has, however, made Pa decide to invest in a DVD recorder and player. Up to now, the way he's watched DVD's is on my little portable one - which, incidentally, now thinks it lives with HIM!

So - I've got the job of finding something to "do the job".

- it needs to be a recorder and a player
- it will probably have to run through a UK Freeview box, as the signal in their area is worse than terrible
- the subtitles will be used to run through to the television as they are on constantly.

[if needed - Pa has industrial deafness, and Ma has tinnitus and age deafness. The induction loop they have works for Ma OR Pa, but not both of them at the same time. They're MY parents, what do you really expect?!]

I know there are a number of makes and models out there, having already googled this intermittently for the past few years, but I really would like input from either someone who is/has used one, or installed one or had any dealings with them whatsoever.

I've hit the usual deaf/hard of hearing sites to look at their evaluations, but they are sadly out of date!

Any help/feedback gratefully recieved - and I promise I won't be stingy with giving out thumbs!

(Ma says I can give extras out from them, too!! )

Jove has anything he wants

by neilb@uk In reply to I always wondered

That's what you get when you're chief god. It's another name for Jupiter, the Roman version of Zeus. Probably most famous for shagging anything and everything that crossed his path.

Information provided free of charge by NITS(tm) because we occasionally like to show off.

the famous tax-evading Liverpudlian?

Not my style of humour at all. Did you follow on to the superb Victoria Wood Corrie spoof?

I loved that spoof - espcially when she took the stout off Martha!

Hadn't seen that one before - thanks babz!

Eyes up the right place and applies a big Bump with size 10 boot.

by OH Smeg In reply to DVD Recorders with subtit ...

Sorry GG but I don't have a clue on this stuff as I don't need to use it at all. I can tell you about the Inductive Loops and why they don't work anywhere near as well when more than one person or receiver is attached/used.

But the DVD Drives are not something that I use here. We use Set Top Boxes to convert Digital to Analog and these have the ability to display Sub Titles but I'm not sure what is available in your neck of the woods.

So I'll keep an eye on this question while I'm here and apply a bump if it starts to drop down the list today.
