Error: No fixed disk present

By michael.spellman ·
I have a latop that recognizes original hard drive, but when I try to put in replacement drive I get an error that says No fixed disk present...
I believe this to be a hard drive issue
Question for all...Does anyone know where I can obtain parts for repairing laptop hard drives?

If you got the harddrive new it should have came with a bootable floppy. If so then boot from floppy first.

Hi, why don't you try to follow this steps:

1- Look for one label on the new HD and look for the disk data (cyl, heads, space) and write it on a paper sheet, then install the disk in the lap.
2- Turn on the Lap
3- Get into the bios and try to match the HD data with one of the list, if it doesn't, specify it as user defined.
4- save the changes and restart the lap. I think, God willing, after this you can use fdisk from a bootable floppy to configure it.

I work on laptops and when I have this problem with a 2.5" ide drive. I use an adapter to hook it up to my desktop. They make them for scsi also.

Data recovery shops repair drives. You might be able to order parts from them.
