error on custom distribution list

By sprinkl3s ·
we are in the process of migrating to exchange from an outsourced email solution. one of my users has several distribution lists in their contacts. when they try and send a message to one of their distribution lists they get an error of "unexpected error has occured" i have tried researching this and have tried several things to figure this out to no avail. there is nothing in the logs. i am going to try installing SP 2 for office 2003 to see if it fixes anything.

Simple Fix Procedure

by wesner01 In reply to distribution list unexpec ...

I don't know how the problem was introduced but here is a simple procedure to fix it;
It appears that my different address groups were not known to Outlook when sending the email.
1. Rename the old group
2. Establish a new group with the same name
3. Move all of the entries from the old group to the new group
4. Delete the old group name

This works!!!

It was the space in the list name that was causing the error. Replaced the space with an underscore, and it now works. Thanks.

error on custom distribution list

by stackhaus In reply to error on custom distribut ...

Here is the fix that worked for me:
User recently deleted a DL and recreated a new one with same name.
He used the type the first few letters of name and then select from the pop-up method
1. Expand the list - error message comes up
2. Delete the listing from the to, cc, bcc list
3. Click directly on the address button or do a manual search from the address book (personal)
4. Select it from the items listed and then click on the to button at the bottom of address book
5. Try to send the list again

The reason it is stuck is because of the N2k file that stores the names. i bet if you do a search for this file and rename it, the issue will be resolved as well. This file stores the names that are typed in outlook so you don't have to type the whole name in the email fields. (This second method is untried yet)

rename .NK2 file

by gerth In reply to error on custom distribut ...

I just fixed the error by simply renaming the .NK2 file to outlook.nk2.old

not the best fix because the user then loses their auto complete but fixed the distro without having to recreate it.

in xp the file is at - c:\documents and settings\%username%\application data (hidden)\microsoft\outlook

not at a 7 machine but I think it is at c:\users\%username%\roaming\application data\microsoft\outlook
