Errors on Boot - Recovering Files

By BorgInva ·
I rebooted my PC after getting some "out of memory" errors. Upon boot, all the PC wants to do is scroll and scroll "recovering orphaned file xxxxxxxxxxx". I rebooted as it was taking forever (I hope I lost nothing valuable). I tried to boot into SAFE MODE but I get BSOD telling me "image url.dll is corrupted". The same thing when I bypass the chkdsk XP wants to do on normal boot. I tried to boot into Recovery Console on the CD, but I get the same BSOD.

I can not enter Recovery Console or any of the Safe Modes due to this url.dll error.

Any way to boot back up?

Thank you.

Booted, more or less.

by BorgInva In reply to Errors on Boot - Recoveri ...

Using that Ultimate Boot CD, I was able to copy url.dll from the \system32\dllcache\ folder into \system32\ and the PC booted, more or less, normally. Then I used the CD again into its main meny, and ran48h of diagnostics on the hard drive (no problems detected) and memory (no problems detected).

So I can boot into my PC but it seems that anything that was running at the time or the crash, is corrupted. Firefox, my network connections, Outlook, etc. I have been able to boot to do a backup on all current data. Converting mail from another PC into Thunderbird. Just running all my operations from my laptop now. I did a repair but it helped nothing. I am looking at a reload, but at least I got my data.

Still no idea why it crashed the way it did. Everything was working and then stopped. Nothing would close, even with "end task". I was forced to power off after 15m of trying and that is when it all started.

Windows, so fragile.

I am going to continue running diagnostics through the weekend on the drive, RAM, and everything else I can with that Ultimate CD and any other utilities I can get working. Then I will reload.

I recommend that Ultimate Boot website I mentioned before to everyone. It helped me get my data by burring it with the software it provided.
