Exchange 5.5

By doanqa ·
I am running exchange 5.5 and all the clients have windows 9x machines with outlook 98. What is the best way to allow these users to go to different computers in different locations and still have all their mail and what not?

Exchange 5.5

I work on a network of 700+ and the way we were able to do it was to set some standards. 1 the default location for the user's personal folder is on the home drive in a directory named exchange. The file is archive.pst. We also by default put the user's personal address book "personal.pab" in that location. With these standards set we created a batch file in the login script that checks for the outlook shortcut on the desktop. If the shortcut does not exist then the batch file copies an outlook.prf file (answer file) to the c:\winnt directory and runs the "prfpatch.exe" from the Back Office Resource Kit. Immediately following we run "newprof.exe -p %windir%\outlook.prf". This creates a profile for the user and sets the defaults. Any special setting that the user has setup must been done again by the user (ie more .pst files). There is also a file called "ProfGen.exe and ProfGen.ini that are on the BackOffice Resource Kit 2 that I think does the same thing but easier.
