NSTL, a company that does Windows compatability testing for software manufacturers, makes a freeware program that tests your computer hardware for Y2K compliance. It will test if your computer can retain years past 1999, as well as rollover tests for the year 2000, and leap years after the year 2000. It can be downloaded by executing the following URL: "www.nstl.com/downloads/y2000.exe".

Several good answers on how to check for Y2K Compatibility, but what to do if it's not? Open the case, and look on the MB for the manufacturer and model. Go to their Website and see if a Flash Update is avaailable; if so, download it and follow the directions CAREFULLY!! If you cannot update the system, then buy a new MB (with processor - might as well upgrade as much as possible), or just get a whole new system. Or... there are add-in cards available for $50-60 that will override the internal clock, and provide Y2K Compatibility, but I would rely on these as a short term fix only.
