One of the easiest ways to check is to
simulate the date rollover yourself.
Shut down to MS-DOS mode
Set the date to 12-31-99 by typing DATE
(or 'DATE 12-31-99')
Set the time to 11:58PM using TIME
(or TIME 11:58P)
Turn the computer off and wait more than 2 minutes. Turn the computer on.
Check the date/time in Windows or Dos
If it is 01-01-2000 your BIOS is Y2K OK.
If it is 01-01-1980 it is not Y2K OK.
*but you may be able to set the date to
01-01-2000 and the BIOS will retain it.
Simple but it works.

Go to www.symantec.com. Follow the leads to Y2K. There is a free download there to both test and fix your PC for the rollover problem. It is called Netbios text/fix. I have used this fix without incident. Also, check the date format under controlpanel/regional settings, date tab and make sure that it is set for a 4 digit date.

I am not sure if you still need this but I have a program that I downloaded from the internet. I do not remember the site address but it is a free utility. I used it with my consulting work on over 20 computer systems and the accuracy was 100% E-mail me if you want it...I will send it VIA e-mail. It is very small.

Even though the New Year is already here, the best thing to do is to go to the website of the manufacturer and find the most up to date bios. I would recommend to go on and flash the new bios even if the computer is Y2K compliant. If it doesn't help you with this matter, it will probably help you in some other aspect. You can only benefit from it.
