Make sure the cable is connected properly. If it is and the problem persists, replace the cable.
Another though, did the floppy work prior to the upgrade? Maybe the drive itself is bad.

There are only a few things this can be:
1) The power or floppy cable is not attached firmly or correctly. Double check them. Then check them again.
2) The cable itself is defective or not functioning with your hardware. Replace the cable.
3) The floppy is mis-identified or mis-configured in the BIOS (very rare nowadays)
4) The floppy itself is defective.
I know this is simplistic, but there are really only a few things it could be to give an error (40).

Try another power connecter from the power supply to the floppy drive and make sure the power cord is secure.
It could also be the system board floppy controller is bad. Can you try the floppy drive on another computer just to make sure it still works? If it still works (and other power connectors work fine with other devices), then I’d suspect the system board.

Check the back of the floppy to make sure none of the pins are pushed in,then reinstall the connector
If this does not work, the cost of a drive is not expensive.

If your floppy ribbon has two connectors on it, try using the other one. Most floppy cables have a twist in the cable to avoid using jumpers to manually configure master/slave.

See if any of the pins are bent or broken. Make sure that the ribbon cord is not damaged. Check to see that the ribbon cord is not plugged in the wrong way. If none of these suggestions help you then the only one that I would have left is to replacethe floppy drive.
