Format data entry in IE

By keithc ·
Does anyone know of a way (via an add-in of some kind, perhaps) that we could control the formatting of text entry in IE? We use a proprietary, web-based database tool for client info that we have no programming control over. So, for example, we'd like all phone numbers to be entered as (123) 456-7890; the database itself doesn't format it, and we'd like some way for the phone number to automatically format that way after it's entered. Any ideas??

If you have access to the web page itself....

... you can check the contents of form fields using JavaScript which can be programmed so that it does not submit the form for processing unless the contents of the fields you're checking matches the input mask. You can add a popup error message telling them which fields do not match the format needed.

But, if you don't have access to the HTML which creates the web page, and you don't have access to the custom programming, you're just about out of options.
