Free Anti-Virus?

By lfruchter ·
I work for one of the world's most incapable bureaucracies and all my school's PCs will be zombies before they provide me with an anti-virus program. I'll also lose my house buying everything myself that they can't get around to supplying. Does anyone know a trustworthy WinXP anti-virus program that's free or nearly so? I admit such a product doesn't make much commercial sense, but hope springs eternal...

Thanks for any help,

AVG has a free product version.

I do not know if the licensing allows the free version to be installed on Non-Profits.

I'de go with AVG. You can also use spyware blaster and spybot Search & Destroy to help combat spyware issues. Good luck!

Check AVG License

by TheChas In reply to Free Anti-Virus?

Check the license for the free version of AVG. I believe it is limited to "personal" use. You may be able to get them to grant a license for an education institution.

No sense getting yourself in trouble for a software license violation.

Other free options that have less restrictive licenses include Comodo. They also have a free firewall.

The open source ClamWin is another option. But, does not include an active scanner.

I have been using Avast for long time because it is a good choice for a free Antivirus, but Bitdefender Free edition & AVG Antivirus free edition works fine...
