Friday Night Music – 19 June 2009 – TR Gathering Road Trip

Locked

by bfilmfan ·

I jumped the gun, shark and starting line, but this is a Friday Night Music Comptetion for the BEST TR Gathering Road Trip Playlist for people to play while they head to the event.

The twist to this fun idea is that you have to state WHERE the song should be played, like near a monument, major highway, leaving or entering a town, etc….

Categories are:

Rock

Metal

Pop

Country

Classical

Jazz

FreeForm (a mix of ALL musical categories)

Let’s see how creative people REALLY can be in 10 songs! Plus we can find out if they know how to get to the event too. haha

I know

by nicknielsen ·

In reply to What is this GPS thing you speak of…

For years we got by with odd highway numbers going north/south and even highway numbers going east/west. We didn’t even need to see the sign telling us what direction we were headed, we could navigate by the sun or stars.

Outside the US (North America?), of course, ymmv.

And I can state emphatically that I have never been lost. I might not have known how to get to my destination, but I have always known exactly where I am. B-)

I reside in Georgia. It was only when Zell Miller took office as governor in 1991 that every exit off an interstate was finally marked with a name.

There are still a lot of state highways that aren’t labelled with much of anything. I guess in Georgia you either know where you are going or we want you to gove reside in another state.

Now that I think about that, that is true! lmao

Personal Jesus – Depeche Mode – played as I roll past Dalton, Georgia and past the cuge crucifx that some church has erected by the side of the road. There is another huge one like it on I-40 in Texas now that I think about it. Might be the same organization – Big Crosses ‘R Us or something…

She Drives Me Crazy – Fine Young Cannibals – Played as I roll past Chatanooga

Don’t Fear the Reaper – Blue Oyster Cult – Played as I roll up Mont Eagle in memory of a really hairy ride I had down the mountain years ago on a motorcyle in an ice storm

When the Bullet Hits the Bone – Golden Earring – Played as I roll into Nashville’s maze of construction. That sign post up ahead? You know what it is…

Fat Bottomed Girls – Queen – played as I leave Nashville to let them know what a real song sounds like

Tracks of My Teers – Smokey Robinson and the Miracles – Have to have at least one Motown hit on the road trip playing as I cross in Kentucky.

Roll OVer Beethoven – Chuck Berry – Played as I roll up past the Corvette plant cause bop is still king!

Sharp Dressed Man – Z Z Top – Always a good choice for arriving at the hotel.

I can’t make it to the TR gathering 🙁 , but I’m there in spirit so I put together a group of songs that would define my trip If I was going.

The weather sucks in NJ right now and I’m outta here.

Credence Clearwater Revival – Who’ll Stop the Rain

Heres some tunes from the Jersey shore. I love that place.

Bruce Springsteen – Jersey Girl

Bruce Springsteen Glory Days
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOpIfbneeHg

Here comes Pennsy! Only spending a litle time driving through Pennsylvania, but this old song is a hoot.
Glenn Miller Orchestra – Pennsylvania 6-5000

Just passing through Maryland too, but great song. I loved Ally McBeal when it was on TV.
Vonda Shepard – Maryland
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Swmm9msRgcM

West Virginia is beautiful. This is God’s country.
John Denver – Country Roads
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-eaaR1Ay5P0&feature=related

Lots of mountains in West Virginia. This is for you, JD.
Led Zeppelin – Misty Mountain Hop
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6mw3a6V7FOw

I finally made it to Kentucky and I need a drink after 12 hours of driving, so I made a quick stop.
Kentucky Bluegrass Taken at Maker’s Mark Distillery in Kentucky

I must be crazy after 12 hours on the road, but I love this song.
Jamiroquai – Virtual Insanity MV

Arrive at TR. A fun time ensues.
Elton John – Friends
