G3 Major Problems?

By JParade ·
I have a G3 desktop (266mhz, 320mb RAM, OS9.1) in which I believe the analog borad is going out. EVERY time I try to restart it, I have to Zap the PRAM at least twice before it will boot, after which I have to reset the Appletalk. The display flakesout, shakes, and sometimes disappears altogether. The sound hasn't worked in a long time, and the NIC card works intermittently. I have done all of the firmware updates, changed the battery, ran Disk First Aid, ran Norton's Disk Doctor, rebuilt the desktop, and then the system folder, but still it doesn't work right. I finally said heck with it, and ordered a new machine. I work for a school, and as we are on a very tight budget, would like to get more use out of this machine. I don't feel confident giving to someone else, as they won't know how to baby it, as it is needed to be. What can I do? Is it the logic board? What else could be causing all of these problems?
P.S. I have also ruled out the possibility of a virus by using Norton's Anti-Virus with the latest virus definitions.
Thanks in advance, JAKE

Have you checked for a virus?
If you run tech tool 3.x you can check the
hardware and look for virus at the same time.
You might have a disk mount problem. a later
version of disk first aid can fix that.

G3 Major Problems?

Greetings from another cash strapped school!
You've done all the right things - time to get
drastic. Boot off the ORIGINAL cd (hope you
still have it!). If the symptoms are still there
you've got a hard ware problem - see the other
answers re: swapping out parts. Bad ram can
do weird things as well.

If the symptoms are gone you've got a
software issue. Reformat the hard drive (zero
out the data). Reinstall the original system
software. Then see where symptoms are.

it is possible that OS9 doesn't like your
hardware - or some mix of the firmware
updates and the system configuration you've
got.

another source of info: the excellent mac-mgrs
list (ww.mac-mgrs.org, I think). That has been
a great help to me here at MdS!

I did finally find (after a lot of searching) the original CD. I tried booting to it and still had the same problems. I have finaaly resolved to the fact that this computer is sh*t, and bought a new iBook.
