Gateway Profile 3T suddenly died after clearing cmos!!

By cjshelby ·
Well, this could fall under the category "if it works, don't fix it".

I picked up this PC at a state surplus auction. It was working fine, but after reinstalling, XP didn't see the firewire port.

I tried to access the bios but it had been password protected. I removed the cover and moved the jumper to clear the cmos. There were 2 other jumpers. JP2 had the legend "pins 1-2 normal, pins 2-3 setup, open bios recovery" JP 5 said "on- normal, off-program".

I figured "what the hey" and moved the JP2 jumper to 2-3 and removed JP5, BIG MISTAKE!!

Now the darned thing won't start. The power light (green) comes on and the fans and hard drive spin. Other than that it's as dead as King Tut.

I even had a fellow who has the access and the equipment flash me a replacement bios chip, no luck.

If any body can "throw me a bone", any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm not quite ready to scrap the thing yet! And I'm not willing to pay the folks at Gateway 3 bucks a minute in the hope that they MAY have an answer. Those folks will probably just charge me to tell me to scrap the mobo.
