Happy Thanksgiving to our Canadian friends!

A good time for reflection.

It is so easy to get caught in the trap of worrying about what we don't have, or things that have gone wrong, instead of appreciating what we do have and what has gone right.

Oh, and enjoy the three day weekend! If nothing else, THAT should make you give thanks!

Happy Holiday.

Jd

Spending the weekend recovering

by JamesRL In reply to Happy Thanksgiving to our ...

I've got the flu.

We had planned to go camping at Algonquin Park, hike among the changing leaves, and we had precooked some turkey to have a feast there.

But because of the flu, we changed our plans and did it locally.

I took all kinds of precautions against the flu, but when all you kids bring it from school, its an uphill battle.

We did have a very nice dinner with turkey and all the fixings. I'm not a turnip fan, I do like squash. We had yellow carrots from an organic farm north of here - more subtle taste.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Every day is "Thanksgiving" - a day to give thanks and be more aware of what we do have, instead of what we don't.

Now for some reason though.. I'm hungry for some turkey.. but all I have around here is Halloween candy

how very sappy is that (true but sappy).
and Halloween candy IS food, if alcohol is observed closely first

I'm doing the meal this coming Saturday.
Will be having about 8 friends over, so that makes 10 for dinner.
A full spread will be had, turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, gravy, carrots, peas, mashed turnips, bread stuffing, sausage meat stuffing, cranberry sauce, home made buns, and pumpkin pie.
A lot of effort, but what the heck right...
As I've no family here, friends fill that gap, so I'm thankful I have them to celebrate with.

Hope everyone had a good time :)

Its a great time for family, friends and great food. A whole lotta work, but worth it in the end. Enjoy!
