hard drive fodlers disappearing

By bldsm ·
My hard drive folders are continually disappearing. Everytime I log on I have less. I have tried everything - virus and spy scans, chkdsk and nothing works. What is causing this and how do I stop it.

If this is on a network, it could be a network policy of some sort that gets rid of folders. Do the same folders get tossed, and the same remain, or is it random folders that will disappear? Also, is it from only your desktop, or anywhere on the system?

idea to try

by brian In reply to hard drive fodlers disapp ...

you can try exchanging hdd's and loading the OS on the other it for a while like this, it could be a faulty drive...see if it happens with the other dirve, if so, you have a deeper problem in the system than just a hdd or virus/spyware...if it doesn't happen on the new drive, it the is narrowed down to something with the old drive (spyware, virus, failing drive)....
