Well you can go to http://www.atrend.com.tw/ click the site map link, then bios downloads etc. to upgrade your BIOS. This will not fix the problem but will make your system Y2K compliant. I've seen your problem before, sometimes the auto-detect featuresets up the HD with normal block mode, you need to change it to LBA or large, LBA is better. That should do it, if not I don't know what to tell ya, good luck.

If you have been in your computer recently chech for the jumpers on you HD as Maxtors have jumpers to enable them to work with older BIOS's (528Mb is the largest an old BIOS would detect). This jumper limits the amount of Sectors and Heads that the BIOS can read, therefore giving the impression it is smaller than it is. Also check that you are setting the HD up as an LBA drive in the BIOS...if it is on CHS then that may be the problem.

I hope this helps

Classic (read OLD) problem. It's the BIOS. You may make it work with a SIIG eide BIOS update card or similar if you have to use this motherboard for @$30 USD. I've used these in older computers that only support 540Mb. hard drives and have been ableto install 4.3Gb. hard drives.
