Has anyone tried Vista release version yet?

By Mr.Wiz ·
I've been running the release version of Windows Vista for about a week now. I haven't had any major problems and most of my software runs as is. I've only had to get a different anti-virus program and upgrade to Roxio EMC 9.0. The only other problem is with the U3 Launchpad software on my flash drive. The flash drive still works, but the launchpad won't.

It may be the keyboard

I gave up in disgust and went back to a wired Microsoft keyboard - no more problems!

So I gave my wireless Microsoft keyboard and mouse away with a warning...

Yes. Vista Ultimate RTM Dual Boot w/ XP MCE 2005

by themidastouch In reply to Has anyone tried Vista re ...

I've been running version of Vista since very early in the beta testing cycle in this same dual boot mode with my XP MCE 2005. I have Vista installed on it's own HD and the dual boot works great. But since most of my data and applications have not been installed in Vista, my experience thus far can only be stated and OS stability and driver availability. The OS itself seems to work fine but there is limited driver availability for my web cam, TV capture card (although MCE detects and uses it fine). AV products are scarce and other than that, I don't have much installed on the OS yet. But I do like what I've seen as far as where the OS beats started from and where the RTM release is now.

of 2006. Since that time I have had no problems. I run Avast Anti virus(free for personal use only). My pc runs 24/7. I record tv shows/movies burning to dvd's with no additional software.

Been running Vista Ultimate RTM for a while now.

Very happy with the OS itself, all the internal tools and functions are great. Gaming I've noticed it doesn't play well with others. Most games just will not load, errors out right at the end of install. Some will tell me that they only work with XP and later... forget the later! Most standard software if it works on XP it works fine on Vista. Beware of the really specialized software. Gaming industry needs some time to catch up to Vista!

Administrator is not an Administrator

by rhogue In reply to Has anyone tried Vista re ...

My AD user is a member of the local administrators group but won't load, install, or run some software until I run as administrator. What's up?

you(administrator) wants to install or run this particular software. There are programs that try to instll themselves on your computer that you may not want installed.

The point is that the security is a kludge it is confusing to sys admins.

Well there are diffrent administrator.
Often you know only about the "main" admin, but there more. You can have diffren admin in diffren part of the system.
Normal user do use one in all pre vista OS, but now they have sacure the system more so you have only one admin that can install thing in the system. user with admin right can also install, but thats on a lokal plane, not the system..
This is a part of the new security system in vista. It works well when you get use to it.
But some program dont like it, but they are porly design.

Pretty, pretty, my precious!

I loaded Vista Ultimate RTM on my laptop in December. Other than trashing it when I attempted to load an older copy of pcAnywhere (I know, I should have known better) it has been great. And the System rollback worked well :)
The card games are slick, the RDP client works as well as on XP, VPN is quick...
I had to beta Internet Security 2007 from Trend Micro until they get releases out, but all seems well so far.
Being my laptop, I am not using it as much as my desktop, though (still XP).
The hibernation features seem to be working well, but apparently my laptop does not support the standards required for the bit-locker stuff. Sigh.

Edited for spelling issues.
