Have SN and model how can I tell the MB

By RG11 ·
I am trying to find out what kind of Mother board I have. No manufacturer is list on the board. The number is A161V12A and the S/N is A161A000107209. It is about 4-5 years old with an AMD 850Mhz processor, award modular bios.
Any info would help?

The most likely scenario is that you have brought some High Density RAM ind the M'Board isn't capable of reading it properly when this happens the machine only sees half of the available RAM. You really need to find the M'Board maker and you do that by either running CT BIOS or writing down the BIOS string on the bottom of the POST screen and then doing a search but you will also see the maker of the BIOS as well so that narrows down the search quite a bit as well. Since you didn't mention it you should have Award/AMI BIOS or maybe one of the other less used ones so you know at least where to start. If you can not access CT BIOS try these sites to find out who the maker is and then visit their Web Site and download a manual.

You will need to copy down the BIOS string correctly and you can pause the screen at this point so you can write it down along with the maker of the BIOS that you have while it is in the BIOS string it is faster not to have find that first when you already have it listed on the top of the same screen. Depending on the BIOS maker the various numbers should provide you with the maker and chip set type the model number that you supplied is incorrect possibly a typo so check that again as well just to be sure.

However if the problem is that the board will not recognize the new RAM you'll have to find some of the older stuff and use it because while you might get the unit working with only seeing half the available RAM there is no guarantee that it will be reliable and most likely will suffer constant RAM problems that result in the unit freezing or shutting down and restarting.
