Help with my cable modem!

By georgie_san ·
Hey everyone! Great site. I have this query which I just hope to get an answer to. My mom has this good internet connection compared to mine, and we both have the same ISP. So I recently changed her cable modem with mine and I had her fast connection. I did this like at 4 in the morning, so that same day, at noon, the internet connection was not responding as fast as it was. I was thinking that maybe the ISP found out about the trade I did and they gave me my same connection back again, although I seriously doubt it because when I'm downloading things my download rate is just like it was before (7 kb/s) but my upload goes up to 30kb/s. Can they control my download and upload separately or are they both controlled at the same time? I know for a fact that they frequently have problems providing the service so I guess that might be the problem for now. Please help.

Cable internet

Your cable modem is just the first step in the route to the ISP's gateway. Each one is just as unique as the MAC address imbedded in the NIC card used for ethernet. The address of each modem carries it's own parameters and is characterized by that address at the name server that gives you access to the ISP. I hope that answers your question.
