Hijacked Internet Explorer Home page

By browningw ·
My home page has been Hijacked by an Adware advertisement. on booting three Icons are placed on my desk top and IE opens automatically and start launching connections to various sites selling Antivirus,Spyware and Adware remover. This happens continuosly while the PC is on ans SLOWS DOWN the machine with Fake warnings that the machine is infected with win32.netsky. Norton 2007 Internet suite was installed and it could not detect the cause. Norton 360 is now on the PC and the fault still exist. I've been in the registry and and remove alot of stuff which still didnot help I've installed a startup monitor which don't even detect it during startup but I know it is in start up somewhere.

Any Idea about a fix. ???

The first C stands for crap... really. It has a feature which allows you to remove thing from starting when the PC starts. Windows Defender has a similar feature. You may also want to try Spybot S&amp and/or AdAware. I have found that no single product will detect and remove everything.

Norton sucks

by david.wallis In reply to Hijacked Internet Explore ...

if i had a penny for everytime i said that! ditch Norton its obviously not up to the job!

if you run ---

Adaware 2007
followed by Spybot that will help

find a decent antivirus - theres a few free ones AVG, NOD32 (free trial)

and lastly

open up internet explorer - click tools-options-program-manage addons and disable everything thats not needed in there!!

There is only a free version of Spybots S&amp

by seanferd In reply to Spybot

If you're paying for it, something is wrong.
Other than making a well-deserved donation, that is, which is optional.

unplug your network cable. Uninstall what ever AV product you have, as it is now no loger to be trusted (as it it may be compromised.) On another computer, download CCleaner, Spybot, Antivir personal and AVG free. Burn these to a cd.

1) On the infected computer, insert the cd and install CCleaner, and antivir. Run a scan from each.
2) Next install Spybot, run a scan from it.
3) Uninstall antivir and install AVG, and run a scan.
4) Plug in your network cable, update Spybot and AVG and scan again.

Another option is to build an UBCD for Windows disk, and boot off of that to scan/disinfect your computer. I like to keep a fairly recent copy around, and can generate a new copy (updated virus definitions)in only 30 min or less now.
Somewhere you may get a name of the hijacker, and any of the main AV sites will have info and removal info on their site.
