How do you remove old workgroups from Ne

By scalver ·
I have a Win95/98 peer-to-peer network set up and thanks to some typos in the workgroup names, I have none-existing workgroup names that have been floating around for weeks. I think I have to make changes to the Registry but I need to know where (Also, the idea of manually fixing 30+ Registries is not very appealing). Any help out there?

Make sure you have absolutely every last PC on your network configured with the correct workgroup name. Then shutdown all of your PCs to make there is no Browse Master with no old data on it.

It sounds like you may have a workstation with an incorrect workgroup name and that doesn't have file and print sharing on. This would cause the workgroup to still appear and there to be no computers in it as the PC doesn't announce itself to the LAN if there are no resources on it.

That was what was happening all right. I found it tracing odd results using nbtstat as someone else suggested- Thanks!

The entries in this key are reset every time you reboot so it wouldn't have helped but thanks for trying- The problem has been solved, it turned out to be a PC with no prt/file sharing and a bad workgroup ID
