How to list running processes?

By LabRaT ·
I am working on a desktop that seems to have a virus. It connects to the Internet (I can ping Internet servers) but I get a "404 File not found error" in IE when I try to get a net page. The OS is Windows ME. How do I get a list of the processes running and how do I end suspect processes?

Also, HijackThis.exe has a running processes section.

Bingo! I have that in my toolbox but didn't think to try it! I'll go ahead and award you the points and close this. It either works or the system gets rebuilt! Thanks!

Sounds like you've got a DNS Redirector or Hosts file Trojan going there.

You'll definitely need to whip out your anti-virus s/w & disinfect the system, and then attempt to clean up the damage that it did.

Plus (if you can afford it) I'd also recommend you get away from the Windows "Munged Edition" and up to XP as it'll save you a lot of headaches...

That's for sure! But the system belongs to the mother of a client. She just uses it to surf. It is their choice. But thanks for the advice!
