HP Colorado 8GB Tape Drive

We have an HP Colorado HP 8GB Tape Drive installed in one of our remote servers. The server is a Dell Dimension XPS R450 which is running Windows NT Server 4.0 and is at Service Pack 4. We use the native Windows NT Backup software. When the user attempts to start a backup they receive a hardware failure error message when launching the software. We receive this error with multiple tapes, including band new tapes.

So far we have removed the driver then loaded the latest driver from HP's website, replaced the IDE Cable and the Tape Drive it with no luck. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
