HP Pavilion xf335 - spilled tea

By amdlee ·
Walking downstairs with a mug of tea in one hand, my laptop and a book in the other, I tripped and a minimal amount of tea splashed on my HP Notebook. It seemed superficial; I wiped it off and went out. Later in the afternoon I discovered liquid on the control button area above the keyboard. Now it simply doesn't turn on. ??? Spoke to HP, they want me to send it in. Is there anything I can try and do first?

As it turned out, my laptop is irreparably damaged. $1,200. Motherboard has been short-wired by a mere thimble-full of tea. No signs of liquid or stickiness when the computer person took everything apart, but he said, it had to have been the tea, or damage made trying to turn on the laptop too soon after the spill. Control panel is the Achilles' heel of laptops, so now I know...

thanks for advice and comments nonetheless.
