HP Printer Hack Bounty Challenge Has Gone Wrong - Released A Massive Update

Last Tuesday, HP announced industry’s first print security bug bounty program of $10,000 to the winner who could find a vulnerability in their printer. Somebody must have taken this challenge up top and found a vulnerability in HP printers because HP has released a massive firmware update a day after announcing the challenge on its official website with the following explanation:

Two security vulnerabilities have been identified with certain HP Inkjet printers. A maliciously crafted file sent to an affected device can cause a stack or static buffer overflow, which could allow remote code execution.

HP Inkjet printers vulnerable to remote code execution. HP recommended applying firmware update patches “as soon as possible.” However immediately after announcing a “first of its kind” bug bounty program for printers, offering up to $10,000 per HP printer bug, HP released firmware update patches for hundreds of inkjet printers.
