There is no point to TR Discussions. It has been taken -- or, given over -- to the unpaid. Or, is it, paid?

If they are bots, they are quite sophisticated.

Seems some of them cut and paste parts of a blog or discussion
then add the spam link in. Sneaky.
ps...sorry about any typos, I'm trying to watch a football game
at the same time!

Real folks, I think

Trying to market their way out of the mess the world is in. Same what got the world into the mess. Only way they can make a buck is with repeating and unremitting volume. If there were captchas, they'd hire themselves out to get by for a penny apiece. That would make them no less IT than any here.

Bots think I...

At least some of them trigger my turing detectors.
That's how I found the <a href=http://www.techrepublic.com/forum/discussions/103-349440-3511326>. </a> and <a href=http://www.techrepublic.com/forum/discussions/103-349440-3511326><font color=FFFFFF>O</font></a> .

Of course some of them may be scriptmonkeys working with a tool feeding them bot-generated lines. But 24 posts a minute is too much work for anyone. Besides, the SEO purposes they serve (they're not advertising) need thousands and thousands of links. And who is paying the money for the SEO effort? Can they afford to pay a wage for something a bot could do? I doubt it.

Generating a semi-relevant response is a piece of cake.

The epic battle

The battle I had one afternoon a couple of weeks back, it was most definately a bot. I was flagging a post every 30 seconds or so, and I was definately outpaced.

by CharlieSpencer In reply to Why

Ansu was playing games with tags and broke his own discussion. Sometimes I'm able to post to it, sometimes not.

I did break my own discussion, but "Sorry I broke TR wasn't it".
Seanferd broke that one...
Except he managed to break it only partially.
Far as I can tell, nobody can post to the one I broke

By the way, you asked about the five days thing... that whole sentence about the five days was a link to "Family Radio"s Nutcase McCampings latest bestest prediction... the world did end back then, "spiritually", but on friday it ends for realz!
