I have an idea...let's talk about beer

By jck ·
Forget politics, weapons of mass destruction, religion, and sex...well...ok...not sex.

What beer do you like best?

Why do you like it?

How did you come about discovering it?

Did you find out it was/wasn't what you thought it would be if you knew about it previous to your first experience?

I'm tired of serious topics, dammit. Let's all talk about something good and fun.

I'll be drinking Corona by late july in this heat... then move up to stronger and thicker beer... Guiness. We have a place down the road, an Italian pub that has over 200 kinds. Had a good English cherry wheat. $8.30 for a 16 oz bottle.

Sounds funny, but I use Mr Beer and make my own. It takes about 2 weeks to make a case. Best beer I've ever had.

I've heard that Mr. Beer is pretty good. Where do you get the kits?

My brother made beer from scratch once. Very good, seemed very alcoholic and my eyesight hasn't been the same since. :)

Home Made

I started years ago at a place called U Brew America. Some wild nights tast testing the batches. So I saw the Mr Beer kit in Target a year ago and decided to give it a try. I need to order more supplies. Go to MrBeer.com

I'd love to figure out how to make fresh Guinness in my house...I'd bottle it by the gallon...and drink it that way too!!!

...had a recipe for home made Bailey's Irish Cream. Not as good as the original, but not too bad. Google homemade guinness and see what you get. I'll bet nobody could get the head to roll up like the real stuff.

I've tasted some pretty good homebrew stout down the years. Home brewing is done a lot in the UK and I have to believe that the US has some equally good recipe and/or ingredient sites.

Doesn't take an enormous amount of effort (just clean kit) and homebrew is the way to get beer in for a party especially as you can usually get 6/7% if you try!

Typing this has made me thirsty. I think I'll have a San Miguel!

For being timezones ahead of me and not sharing your beer!!!!

Oh well...2.5 more hours...and I can join in :)

If I could learn to make Guinness at home...I wouldn't have to go to Ireland for it...I could just focus on going there to meet the lovely ladies :)

I've been envying your location since you started posting. I spent a really nice two of weeks in Sarasota one October a couple of years ago. Summer is still not here and the temperature outside hasn't really hit 70F so a cold San Miguel isn't what it is on a beach in Spain!

Still nice, though.

Seriously, check out the homebrew. You won't get Guinness but - you never know - you might make something as good. I don't know whether it might get a bit warm where you are, now, for brewing without aircon.

One of my old Uni mates now has his own brewery and makes good beer and a good living! He started with homebrew kits and then started to work up his own recipes.

I not only have A/C in my house (yes...swill can own their own homes), but I also have a generator and plans to get a small window unit in case of hurricanes and power outages I can sleep on the couch and stay cool in the 90+F heat here.

As for the homebrew: If I ever make something almost exactly like Guinness, I will become a hermit and stay drunk 10 hours a day...hahahahaa
