I think I've (quite accidentally) realized something...

By TonytheTiger ·
The consumers of the United States really are in the catbird seat, even if they don't realize it!

The more money our government takes from us, the less we'll be buying from everyone else... so, many countries actually have a vested interest in seeing our taxes as low as possible. If we can't afford to buy their exports, they're not going to have the money to run their expansive social programs!

That's why the rest of the G20 are nervous! THEY wanted Obama, never dreaming he'd be doing what he's doing... and now THEY'RE having buyer's remorse.

Hmmm... I'll have to mull it over some more... but I think we can find a way to use this...

I don't!

how can you blame the illegals

Everyone has the right to try to better themselves and seek opportunity... Where one was born wasn't their choice, and isn't relevant. Most of the illegals obviously came to a better place, and if a better place is $2.50 an hour, how bad was it where they came from and would it violate common human rights to force them back?

Hopefully, the principles on which this country was founded can cover the globe, and we can get rid of these pesky political borders. That's my opinion.

I think Dumphrey needs to consider the differences between these two verbs.

Americans are so engorged with their politics that they don't know if they are coming or going. They wants what's best for the moment, if that contradicts their values, so be it, it is always just whatever works for them at the given moment that matters. Don't expect consistency, rationality or reason.

they will always attribute it to something 'only Americans understand' like liberty, freedom, "people power", values, or ancient US history, in order to explain it to themselves, even if nobody else buys it.

if Obama is going to raise welfare payments to compensate for the extra tax they have to pay on cigarettes :)

Obama, perhaps; but, Congress, highly doubtful.

by deepsand In reply to I wonder

At least here in Pennsylvania a portion of the Commonwealth's share of the big $$$ settlement with the tobacco companies of a few years back was used in great part to fund low cost insurance for low income individuals and families.

Still, the majority of it went into the General Fund.

opinion, assumption or fact?

As I haev always agreed, we need you but no more and no less than you need us or other trade partners. The US cannto survive on its own, you are so reliant upon others for your day ot day needs.

Other nations, like Canada rely heavily on US trade, however we have the resources to exist as a nation without the US.

Monetarily we would take a remendous ****, but one that could be recovered. We would lose a lot of trade income, but retain a lot of our resources, eventually reducing our own local costs also.

We haev what others want, if we don't ship lumber to the USA, we have a HUGE Chinese demand that we can't currently fill anyway.

If your economy crumbles, you still need ot buy Canadian hydro as it is done as a cost effective measure for the USA as well.

We rely on your trade income, when we finally get paid that is, however you are completely reliant on the resources fo other nations, our economy may struggle but yours would be destroyed.
