a problem you say has been occurring for days, weeks, or longer

how can you expect me to care when you stop me in hallway en route to fixing someone else's problem?

I get emails that say
URGENT My application is not working. please fix it immeidiatly , my password is XXXXXXXX and ill be out all afternoon so help youself, please have it fixed when i return.

really??? "your application is not working"?? Want to leave me which one, maybe and what the error is or why you think its not working!!

I have an easy way to stop that. It's called a trip to HR for a termination interview. You give your password, and you're out the door. Otherwise, why even have passwords?

I set their account to force them to change their password, then remind them to thank me for not sending the division VP a nasty-gram from their account.

you don't have to do any real work, and when there is a policy issue, you report it and they MUST do it.

Like when a co-worker left his workstation unlocked, my other co-worker sent an email:

"Dear Tom:

It is with regret I inform you of my decision to resign, effective immediately. I have been saving money and I finally have the funds to get the operation in Sweden so I can explore my feminine side.
