Importing/Exporting Access database into SQL Server

By grouchyone ·
Is there a way to either import or export an Access 2000 database into SQL Server Express? I've checked out all the help in both programs with no answers. Can someone please help me with this? Thanking everyone in advance for their help.

importing/exporting access data

use odbc
1 create a data source using odbc administrator based on sqlserver
2 in access, do file/external data or file/save as with filetype odbc-this will move the data
3 regarding queries- you can view sql from access - you can then use the sql in your sql server app

SQL Server has a handy tool called the Import/Export wizard that will allow you to do this. From your SQL client tool (either Enterprise Manager for SQL Server 2000, or SQL Server Management Studio for 2005), right click the database that you want to add the data to and choose Import Data. The wizard will allow you to select the Access file as a data source, and you can map one or more (or all) tables into the SQL database.

Hope this helps.

DTS Wizard

by coyoterojo In reply to Importing Access database ...

I'm trying to import data FROM SQL Express TO Access so I can more easily manipulate it (and then export it back). I've been unsuccessful in creating an ODBC connection (access denied on my local box, which is Vista) and am trying to find the DTSWizard. Is there some other tool besides SQl Express that should be installed in order to obtain it? There is no Import/Export option on the context menu for a SQL Express database.

Thanks for any assistance.
