Independent labor charge?

    Locked

    by tln forefront ·

I am a former Marine Corps network administrator. As I have never done my job in the civilian sector, I am not knowledgeable as to pricing for labor. I am doing some independent work for a gentleman that I hope to keep as an influential future contact. I would like to be able to undercut any price he could get from an IT contractor, but I still want a price that is fitting for professional work.

Details: I am going to set up a Windows 2008 server, install and configure (basic configuration) both ADS and WDS, and ensure that new workstations are automatically configuring on the domain.

Any help is appreciated, and if I can provide any more information, please let me know. Thank you.

Try reposting this in the ‘Q&A’ forum. The ‘Discussion’ forum is for matters of general discussion, not specific problems in search of a solution. The ‘Water Cooler’ is for non-technical discussions. You can submit a question to ‘Q&A’ here:

There are TR members who specifically seek out problems in need of a solution. Although there is some overlap between the forums, you’ll find more of those members in ‘Q&A’ than in ‘Discussions’ or ‘Water Cooler’.

Be sure to use the voting buttons to provide your feedback. Voting a ‘+’ does not necessarily mean that a given response contained the complete solution to your problem, but that it served to guide you toward it. This is intended to serve as an aid to those who may in the future have a problem similar to yours. If they have a ready source of reference available, perhaps won’t need to repeat questions previously asked and answered. If a post did contain the solution to your problem, you can also close the question by marking the helpful post as “The Answer”. .

though personally I find that prices depend on many things, Location the business you are doing the work for, it’s size and so on. Here I charge a Bank much more for similar work as a 2 person earth moving business. But I’m in a Capitol City and I would expect that if I was in a small regional area I would be charging less.
