Installing A second Network Card?

By rlesley ·
I am preparing to install a second network card into my NT 4 server to connect to a router for DSL. I run DHCP and WINS. This server runs Proxy Server 2.0. Are there anythings I should do to prepare for a second network adapter. Any advice?

1. Make sure your DHCP scope assign only private IP address (see RFC1597)
2. You probably need to run a DNS to resolve internal host, and set a forwarder resolver address to your provider's DNS server IP address to resolve external names.
3. You may want to consider adding packet filtering on your gateway.

One point missed until now is that Microsoft doesn't recommend to use WINS on a NT server with more than one NIC. (ie. multihomed)

One of the problems is staed in this article:

If you don't use any replication you might be okay.
