Installing windows 2000

By info ·
I am trying to install windows 2000 for the second time on my desktop and laptop. After I format the hard drive using NTFS and all the files have been copied to the drive it reboots but the screen stays blank and setup does not contine. Can you help?

What I sugest you is to use a W98 boot disk, use the fdisk tool, delete the partitions and recreate them. And then restart the W2K installation. I assume that you allready had on the two computers W2K installed, so there is not a problem of compatibility. And also, I sugest you to reset the BIOS, maybe something with the IRQs is messed up.

The boot disk idea brings up a good point. Does it even try to boot off the CD the second time, because it should at least ask?
If it does, then it's probably a Win2K problem. It definately wouldn't hurt to look through the BIOS, either.
Since it happens to both machines, I'd also try to find another copy of Win2K. That one might have a corrupt file or not be reading the CD right.

You are probably right because my cd-rom is slightly damaged. Thank you.
