Installing XP hardware driver on Vista?

By pamelaj ·

I have a small SiPix A6 printer and a new Toshiba laptop with Vista. The Sipix drivers won't install on Vista, but I've done some research and found that the printer drivers can be "isolated" and installed on Vista. Unfortunately I can't find ANY info on how to do that.

I have been able to "explore" the drivers disk and find the various folders -- the Win2000 folder contains lots of files and an .exe file but no drivers. The Windows folder contains drivers but no executable.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Hi! you can try this ....

by internetspider In reply to Installing XP hardware dr ...

Check the cd if there is vista driver then try to setup that, or show tha update driver path to there in the cd, it will detect file if there are for vista.

If you dont get vista drive files the you have to download from the net, or other websites, try searching by google,

dont forget to type vista driver.

No Vista Drivers for this printer :-(

by pamelaj In reply to Hi! you can try this ....

Unfortunately I've looked EVERYWHERE and there is no new driver for this printer. One source I searched (and I've looked EVERYWHERE and read lots of reviews, etc.) said that an XP driver for this printer would work on Vista.

Last night I changed the compatibility mode in vista and tried every other driver for every comm port and all "failed" to install. I'm about to give up on this one . . .

How to install the Sipix A6 in XP & Vista (and Windows 7)

by swbuehler In reply to Installing XP hardware dr ...

You can install the SiPix in XP, Vista, and Windows 7 x86 (32-bit) by adding the printer manually from the Printers list ("Add New Printer"), choosing the COM port you've hooked it up to, and then when Windows asks for the driver have it look for the driver in <CD>Win2000. (<CD> is the letter of the drive containing the Sipix CD). It will prompt you that the driver is not "certified", but tell it to install anyway, and you will have your Sipix working in XP and Vista. I was unable to test in Windows 7 because I use an x64 version and there aren't any x64 drivers for this printer.

How to install XP hardware driver(s) on Vista..

Put in your printer driver cd disk, but do not load it..YET.
Right click on the printer driver cd disk and select "Properties > Computability", then put a tick in the box marked "Run this program in Computability mode", and then select "Windows XP SP2", Now load/run your printer driver disk.
Hope this helps you out.
