internet connection sharing

Save yourself hours of agony. Go to http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/network/proxy.htm and download "Proxyi.exe", then install it on both computers.

On the "host" computer, go into Network Neighbourhood and set the IP address of your NICcard to 192.168.0.1 with the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0.

On the "slave" computer (which has no direct internet connection) set the IP address of the NIC card to 192.168.0.2 and the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0; next go to tools/internet options/connections/LAN settings and set everything to 192.168.0.1 port 6588 (except FTP port 21 and Socks port 1080) and make sure the "Use a proxy server for your LAN" box is ticked. Now reboot both computers and enjoy!

With proxy.exe it won't matter which computer you start first, you won't need NetBEUI, no hassles at all, you will always have instant internet connection as long as the host computer is connected. Proxyi.exe (the self-extracting zip file) is freeware.

FYI - AOL will not connection share.

Also, go to add/remove programs - windows components and remove internet connection sharing on both pc's. Go the the pc with the modem you plan to use and then add internet connection sharing back in and create the setup disk.

Both computers must be running tcp/ip protocols

After you fun the setup disk - should work fine. Or if you prefer not to run the disk then setup an internet connection manually and choose lan as your internet source.
