Internet Explorer 7 and AIM Mail

By barbtighe ·
I noticed that when I enter my screen name in AIM Mail, the screen name is stored in Firefox and also IE6. However, when I use IE7, the screen name is not stored. Does anybody know of any security settings that would prevent the screen name from being stored in IE7? Any suggestions? Greatly appreciate... Thanks!

Sorry, new security protocols in IE7.

You now get to type it manually. Just think of the typing practice you'll get! :)

Internet Options

In order to give the appearance of increased security, the default settings for IE7 are tighter than those for IE6.

From IE 7, click on Tools, Internet Options.
On the Content tab, click on "settings" in the auto-complete section.

Enable Auto-complete as needed.

Next, click on the privacy tab.
Click on Sites and verify that AIM and AOL are not blocked.

That should do it.

If you are still having problems, you may need to loosen some of your security settings.

Not the same.............

by ThumbsUp2 In reply to Internet Options

Autocomplete is not the same thing as actually storing and automatically displaying your login name. Autocomplete requires that you actually start typing something, then it tries to guess which one you want by listing possible matches.

However, that's about as close as one can come with IE7 to displaying the username every time you reach a page.

Thanks for the feedback.

According to my customer, she has used IE7 for months and never had to do this before. She did mention that AIM Mail recently changed. So, I'm wondering if the update to AIM broke something that was working before. We know how that goes! :) BTW... I did try the autocomplete steps mentioned and could live with starting to type the name and have the screen name pop up. But that doesn't work either. I know that other sites store user information in IE7, so I'm inclined to think it has to do with the change to AIM Mail. I just couldn't find anything on it.

Thanks Again!

Check cookie settings

by ThumbsUp2 In reply to AIM & IE7

Some sites store a cookie on your computer which contains the login name (not very smart though). You might look at the cookie settings in IE to see if you can allow that one site to store your login information.

IE7 and AIM Mail

by barbtighe In reply to Check cookie settings

I found cookies from AOL/AIM relating to screename. I couldn't find anyway to allow that one site to store login info.

My suggestion: Use Outlook Express or Use Firefox.

Thanks for the help!
