Internet Explorer 7 locks up

By terry_angie ·
I installed my updates last week and since installing update I can only get on the internet if I right-click internet explorer and tell it to open without add-ons. If I go to tools - manage add-on's it doesn't let me do anything. Any ideas??? Thanks

First Thing I'd Try...

by rkuhn In reply to Internet Explorer 7 locks ...

Would be to uninstall 7.0 and go back to 6.0.

Then, scan for the usual spyware, adware, etc. Also, uninstall or disable any third party toolbars, addons, etc.

I have yet to have a IE 7.0 upgrade go bad so far unless there was A) malware and/or B) third party browser tools added.

In other words, get as clean a copy of IE 6.0 running first, then upgrade to 7.0.

As this is so new you may be able to remove IE7

by HAL 9000 Moderator In reply to Internet Explorer 7 locks ...

From the Add Remove Programs in the Control Panel.

Then if it doesn't do any harm open Windows Update and select Custom and when you are shown IE7 click on the tick beside it and when it opens click on the box that says Remove from Updates. It will not try to install again.

Actually there is no advantage of switching to IE7 as if you fully patch IE6 you will have Tabbed Browsing and better controls or at least the familiar IE6 Controls that you are used to.

However if you have installed any new Software since you installed IE7 forget about it as you are likely to do more harm than good trying to remove it from your system. Switch to FF or Opera as your default Browser and forget about IE7 till it actually works right.

Been Using IE 7.0 for 6+ Months

No problems.

IE 7.0 is more secure, has new features and is worth it.

I have also uninstalled IE 7.0 after installing at least half a dozens programs and the uninstall went fine as well.

I had just this problem today. I found a blog that suggested Reset IE 7. It's under Tools, Advanced, then click the reset button. I restarted and it worked fine.
