invisible to Google

By john.a.wills ·
My website home.mindspring.com/~johnawills seems invisible to Google. When I type in "mindspring" and "johnawills" I get only references from other sites. When I type in "Begg-Lorimer", about which crooked family I wish to warn people, I get other references to the family, but not my story. What can I do to make my site Google-visible?

First, you should make sure that Google is actually indexing your page(s), and submit it directly if it's not (or if you're not sure).

It's also possible that the <meta http-equiv="Expires" content="0"> element in your front page is signaling to Google (and other search engines) that it shouldn't index your page at all, as it is marked to expire immediately -- although I don't know for sure if Google actually parses meta-expires tags, so maybe not.

It did give me some ideas, but I need more information, as I indicate in the comment above.

How do I find out whether Google is actually indexing my pages? How do I submit pages directly (to whom do I submit them?)? Have you a suggestion for changing the meta expires value (assuming my host lets me get at it)?

I am supposing that the explicit indexing in Google and Yahoo had the effect, so I am awarding you the points.

You could try adding this META tag to stop google from indexing your site.

<meta name="ROBOTS" content="NOINDEX,NOFOLLOW">

I haven't tested this out for my site, but its worth a shot.

I don't want Google to stop indexing my site.

I want to reject answers 2 and 3 but TR is not giving me the option at present. Working from Answer 2 I have registered with both Google and Yahoo and after a week I am still invisible. Answer 3 appears to be a joke: I want to be indexed and visible.

I am now visible to Yahoo, but not to Google. Is it just a matter of waiting till the net is trawled?

I am now visible to Google also. I suppose it was just a mater of time. I am still unable to access the accepted/rejected button on TR Q & A, alas.
