Is it just me, or are the media . . . . . .

By maxwell edison ·
..... falling all over themselves covering and sensationalizing Chelsea Clinton's wedding much more than then they did Jenna Bush's wedding? It seems pretty obvious to me that they are.

I hate it when the media play favorites. And it's SO obvious.

I also hate it when the Republicans are tagged as the party of the rich, but yet it seems more Democrats are actually the rich. And they flaunt it with impunity.

I also hate it when Americans are treated like Royalty: Hollywood types, musical types - and the Clintons.

Okay, there's my soapbox rant of the day.

And stepping off said soapbox for something a little lighter:

If you want to kill six hours on a Saturday night, watch the Clint Eastwood Dollars Trilogy Westerns. While watching them last night, I recalled another time I watched all three in a row - at a drive-in theater circa 1967-68, riding there in the back of a neighbor's pick-up truck.

You're all in favour of a republic? So am I . . . . . .

Do you know where a good one is?

We used to have a good one in the US, but people have been either giving it away or taking it away for the past six or seven decades.

I don't think the Royals would do the same, nor would the current PM.

He'd have gotten a permanent seat on the Jerry Springer show, right next to the KKK.

There is freedom of speech in Britain

by JamesRL In reply to The British Royal Family

I dare say you'd be better treated than if a foreigner burnt a US flag at the Wsshington Monument.

If you were at all menacing or threatening, or used foul language, you'd probably be charged with distrubing the peace or worse. If you were polite, you'd probably be directed to Hyde Park and given a soapbox to shout from.

Three Hundred years ago; Well a little over two hundred years ago, if you spoke in favour of the king in many parts of America during the revolution, you could be tarred and feathered, which is a fate worse than death for many. And of course even a free black man in the south of the US didn't have free speech till after the civil war, and even then it wasn't effectively protected.

Are Liz and Charlie any worse than the descendants of American captains of industry who inherited their wealth, wealth built in many cases by exploitation of labor and natural resources?

I wonder if you studied english history before the American revolution. There was a civil war in Britain, the king was beheaded and a religious fanatic, Oliver Cromwell, became the tyrant. He had been a parliamentarian, but in order to supress a potential uprising from the royalist factions, he took on tyrannic powers. He supressed the Catholics more than the King had done. In the end of ow many course, he himself was overthrown and the monarchy restored.

How many Americans worship Paris Hilton, who inherited her wealth and flaunts the law at every turn.

It's one of those things, that once done, tragically, takes a good reason to undo.

Like the US having politically appointed sheriffs and DAs, and an archaic inherited-from-the-british elector system, instead of a straight vote-weighing system. Takes a real good, or rather, real real bad reason to undo the way things are done.

Which may explain something, I dunno.

I see your dollars trilogy, and raise you Dead Man (not Dead Man walking) and the Trinity films. Even you right out.

Josey Wales - That was a good one. The best, however . . . . .

by maxwell edison In reply to Outlaw Josey Wales

..... and I've seen almost all of Eastwood's movies:

Million Dollar Baby.

But I'd sure put The Outlaw Josey Wales in the top five.

In no particular order:

Million Dollar Baby.
The Outlaw Josey Wales.
The Bridges of Madison County.
Escape from Alcatraz.
Thunderbolt and Lightfoot.

Honorable mentions:
Gran Torino.
Absolute Power.
Hang 'Em High.

For those of you who like his darker side, High Plains Drifter.
