Original Iron Chef America

by Wayne M. In reply to oh gods...

Ever see the original Iron Chef America, a single show from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas with William Shatner as the Commissioner? It was tremendously over the top and Mr. Shatner was ideal in the role.

Mr. Shatner has "presense" that ability to catch one's attention and hold it. He also is able to convey a sense of just having fun to his audience. I even find his commercials enjoyable and more memorable than award winning scenes by "real" actors.

It isn't literatiure, but it is fun.

Aw, c'mon guys!

You gotta see the History Channel special "How William Shatner Changed the World." Its not about him, really (he's just the narrator). But it does show how Star Trek influenced a generation of people who later put the devices shown in Star Trek to practical applications.

And his Star Trek Memories books were a riot! The man does have a sense of humor :)

in the late 1950's my father had a multi channel radio telephone..handheld, for work.
it was custom made for him by motorola.
that was the first handheld telephone with guaranteed availability ever produced, and motorola was one of the first cell phone makers if not the first. they knew the core concept long before anyone else did.
[ Shatner claims Star Trek caused the cell phone revolution, but that was at least 5 years later than my dad's unit. ]

surround sound stereos..we had one custom built, 10 years before they hit the market.. because my dad wanted to use a speak he got given. ~l~

The most hated member of the crew

by jdclyde In reply to bahhh

If you watch any of the interviews with the rest of the cast of star trek, "there was a monster on the show, and that monster was William Shatner".

This makes it twice as funny that the original Michael Myers mask was a Captain Kirk mask painted white. Scary!

He was an ego-maniac that had to control every clip to make him look good and keep everyone else down so he would remain the star of the show.

What a jerk.

I always thought it was Sulu or Chekov, or those security guards that kept getting killed off during each new episode.

I didn't hear about the rest of the crew, but I did hear that Sulu had a bit of a tiff against Shatner.

Here's a bit of trivia, did you know that the 1st onscreen inter-racial kiss was between Capt.Kirk and Uhura, they made tv history with that.

When does he stop being Canadian?

by JamesRL In reply to Celebrating the Day

He has been a steadily working actor living in the United States for 40 years now. AFAIK, he doesn't maintain a home here. Other than a few commericals and voiceovers, everything we see of him is US based.

Keep 'em you've earned him.

US Citizen

by BFilmFan In reply to When does he stop being C ...

I don't think he is a US citizen.

Time to deport him back.

You folks are acting like ya don't want him back either.

Maybe we should ship him somewhere like China, but I don't know what the poor Chinese have done to deserve him either...
