Keyboard & Mouse not working window xp

By jillzq ·
One day, while I was using the computer the keyboard and mouse stop working. They were both wireless, so of course replaced batteries. Still no green light coming on from the reciever. Switched to USB mouse/keyboard. It worked then bam it happen it again. They wouldn't work. Then my whole system crashed. I put in my cd to fix the error. They keyboard/mouse wouldn't work so I can't repair it. I can't do anything. Thought maybe something wrong with usb, so I plug usb HD in that worked. Is their a solution to this problem? Please help :)
thanks

have you tried updating the USB drivers?

Go into Device Manager & "update" the USB root....see what happens.

What was the result of using a wired keyboard? You can also try it after removing your wireless input from the PS/2 port and post the result of that.

Could be a Windows Update issue

You said that you couldn't do a repair. try putting the hard drive in another machine and doing the OS repair, then try booting again. Hope you get through.

That was my next idea but I wasn't sure if I could do that. Thank you.

I could of sworn I answered all the questions that would asked. I will try to state it clearly. No type of keyboard worked. It doesn't work before it boots up or when the OS boots up. The Keyboard and mouse that have been used all work on other computers. So clearly its either hardware issue motherboard etc or OS issue. thank you for your help :)

I don't suppose you have a USB card kicking around?

by Darryl~ Moderator In reply to You could try being more ...

It sure would be nice to try that.....then you'd know if the USB ports in the computer are blown.

by jillzq In reply to I don't suppose you have ...

I actually went and bought a usb card for it. When it happen the first time. Thats when I used the usb mouse/keyboard. I tested the usb ports, both card and ones that with the computer. On other devices I have a external hard drive when plug in it booted up. So that let me know it wasn't the usb.
