Double check all of your bios settings after the upgrade (for example, L2 cache, LBA on IDE, etc). Every BIOS upgrade I have done has reset the bios to their defaults, losing any changes you mights have done them (including boot order). The other updates shouldn’t really affect system speed other than perhaps fragmenting your hard drive. Hope this helps you, as I went through something similiar last week doing bios upgrades. Good luck.

Sometimes you may have to do a second flash in case all the settings were correct in the BIOS.

      1) Reflash the BIOS
      2) Check ALL BIOS settings
      3) Run Scandisk (in Windows) thorough
      4) Run Disk Defragmenter (in Windows)

Also check you disk space, delete all temp files from \windows\temp folder and empty the recycle bin. Run defrag also.

Depending on what kind of laptop it is, there may be some power management settings in it that actually have it running at about the speed of a 486. I ran in to this with a Toshiba a while back. Flashing the BIOS reset the Power management to low power usage. It actually halves the number of CPU cycles per second. This is supposed to save power. You may also want to try reflashing the BIOS. It’s not likely that it was the critical updates.

You upgraded the BIOS and now your operating system thinks it’s on a different machine. When the operating system is installed it looks at the hardware on the machine and installs itself accordingly. While not every BIOS upgrade will effect the OS you should reload the operating system anytime you change the BIOS unless you know for sure that the BIOS upgrade did not change any of the critical functions of the machine.

      My two cents.
