Laptop shuts down no warning as battery is low.

By Healer ·
Since I have my laptop Acer Extensa 2303LC installed with Windows 7 Pro, the laptop simply shuts down without warning when the battery power gets too low.

I have gone through the Power Options. There does not seem to be anything I can do to rectify it.

When it has XP installed, it always warns as the battery is getting low.

I wonder if there is something I could have missed.

I haven't tried that on Windows 7 yet...

But I'm willing to give it a try :)

I have an image of my HDD so I don't have to worry about messing it up...

Let us know how you make out.

I won't be in a hurry as I've got a lot of things to do with this computer for the moment.

Repair-in-place hasn't fixed the problem.

Every problem remains the same. I am sorry to advise that.

win xp battery alarm does not go off - computer just shuts down

by davebonline In reply to Laptop shuts down no warn ...

Look in Control Panel > Power Options > Alarms. Under "Low Battery Alarm" click on the ALARM ACTION button. If the ALARM ACTION box is checked - the alarm action has to be set to either Stand By, Hibernate or Shut Down - all of which turn the computer off. So - the computer is set to turn off as soon as the low battery alarm is triggered - and that's exactly what it's doing. Simply uncheck the Alarm Action box and you'll get the alarms instead of a shut down - hope this helps.
