I was thinking that an interesting top ten lists would be top technical lies that "they" told us years ago. For instance, I remember a time when technical leaders were trying to sell other executives that technology would reduce the amount of printing a company would do. I haven't seen it and I don't see it anytime soon. Any thoughts?

It seems people themselves are causing the excessive paper use due to illogical habits they refuse to let go of. Manager x doesn't like reading from the "screen", so they print 10 batches of 30 page documents, so they can use a ruler to go through each line of text. Government agencies that insist on Hard Copy, (mainly because they still haven't updated to databases and the people in charge still insist on reading from paper).

"You'll Love It!"

When in fact you hate it.

Of course, I'm referring to any piece of Mac Equipment.

Yeah, I know some people that are die hard Apple fans. I have an iPod, but I don't think Apple is the sovereign deity of all the electronic media.

"It just works"

What happens when it doesn't?
You can't fix it yourself, you have to pay with limbs to get an accredited technician to press the magic "It just works" button, then miraculously it's not broken.
They won't even tell you how to fix it, it's all about money and nothing about consumer.

Oh, and nothing is compatible, you have to spend twice as much to get "mac" copies of software.

The one that I like and it still is going around

by OH Smeg In reply to LIES!!!

Is that Electricity flows from Positive to Negative.

So we now have 2 different Schematics when we get to see one, 1 is in Electron Flow and the other is drawn as per the lie.

Two different schematics? Really?

by NickNielsen In reply to The one that I like and i ...

Maybe that's how they do it in Oz, but here in the states, we only use one schematic.

Maybe we're not as easily confused.

Your company still likes paper too much. What can any form of technology you purchase do about that?

Not that there isn't plenty of vapor and BS around, but if you invest in something real, you kinda sorta have to follow through on it.

Jet Packs

by DMambo In reply to LIES!!!

I thought we'd be taking delivery shortly after the display in the opening ceremonies of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. I really want my jet pack before I'm too old to enjoy it.

That and flying cars

I want a flying car more than a jet pack.

If they introduce flying cars

by NickNielsen In reply to That and flying cars

I'm digging a 50-foot deep hole, building my home at the bottom, then back-filling with cement. As many oblivious drivers as there are on the roads today, you want to put them in the air? :0

Although, now that I think about it, if we could only ensure they didn't kill anybody besides themselves, it would do wonders for the gene pool. ]:)
