Linux - What version/distribution is bes

By kelvin_anwanwan ·
Hi there:

I have just recently been introduced to Linux OS and I'm researching and asking ambitiously which distribution of Linux software is best for online and offline transactions.

I'm recommending Mandrake 7.0, Suse 6.4, and Turbolinux 6.0.

Mandrake is a spinoff of RH 6.0 and takes RH to a new and higher level.

Suse 6.4 comes with tons of info and programs.....6 disks of programs and information!

Turbolinux is something that seemed to install easier than the two I mentioned above.

Askin what flavor of Linux someone recommends is a question that usually starts heated debates. Remember, if you like 2 or 3 flavors, you can run them all on your system! Distributions nowdays also are more compatible with each other and are easier to share programs between themselves than a few years ago. That means you can select one version of Linux and share programs with other versions without hassle.

Hope that helps.
Ron

First you need to decide what you will do:
- if you wana have Linux OS at home, you have modem conection I think the best - RedHat6.2 or Mandrake 7.1
- if you wana have Linux OS anywhere at work and wana configure it like web/ftp/mail server or firewall I think you need Slackware 7.0 (I think Slack is very friendly for server).

This is my apinion, maybe anybody have theyr owns :)

Symka.

I would go to Cheapbytes.com or the Linuxmall.com and get one of the packages of 6 different distributions and try them. I tried Redhat , Mandrake, Storm and Caldera
Play with each until you find the one you like. It's all personal preference.
