Long file name error

By talgrav ·
I have a Compaq system with a 4.3 gig drive that will not boot due to a long file name error
that scandisk cannot fix and the system refuses to boot. It is running Win95.
Does anyone have a suggestion for the fix for this problem?
Thanks,

In order to slove this problem, backup your long file.If you are uncertain which file is it type dir in DOS mode to search. You have have save a document with a long name which is under support in windows platform. Backup the files in a Floppy Disk then delete the file(s). Then reboot your computer.

Long file name produce tons of errors under windows. They can also create buffer overflows in your computer allowing mailicious attacks.

Hello guys,

Do you encounter errors while deleting files in Windows? I'm here to

provide a solution. I've been reading several threads on this topic on

different forums where computer users were asking about this popular error

"The filename you specified is not valid or too long".

My research helped me to find a tool for you guys.

Its LONG PATH TOOL, a very easy to run but highly powerful software.

Follow the link to read more about this error.

The error could actually be the directory name rather than a filename, you would get the same error message. Make sure the long directory name is not longer than 256 characters.
