Yes, the Mac CAN run Windows. You do not format your hard drive however - you install software that allows you to run both. You can not run Windows by itself on any of the newer Apple/Macs because they use a exclusive Motorola chip (which is why they run sooo much faster). The program is called Virtual PC and it works great. Here is the first URL I found http://www.softwareoasis.net/46.htm. It is expensive so it would probably be worth shopping around E-bay and the like. By the way converting your Apple to straight Windows is sort of sac-religious.

Since Alpha-Male is making an attempt to still my answer I think I should point out that Virtual Pc is NOT a emulation package. It actually allows you to install Windows (whichever you pick or even DOS) onto you Mac and once it is installed Windows will use shared files from the Mac Os. It is possible to install Virtual Pc and then remove all of the Mac OS that you do not need anymore but I do not know exactly what you would remove and since few people work from the (hidden)command line in the Mac Os I really can not tell you how to do.

All the other PC "Emulation" software is crap. Anything that relys on .dlls will not work correctly. Also, it is worth mentioning that there are cards called ORANGE cards that will allow you to install a PC Processor and run both. Alpha-Male had that much right.

My thing is this. Award the points to whoever because I not here to collect points I am here to help but make sure that your information comes from someone informed when you are dealing with Macs. This site is understandably PC centered, but, that will not stop a "PC Person" from trying to answer your questions. My best advice for you is to get a copy of MAC ADDICT and learn what your Mac can do. If it is just PC software your trying to run and you want to save money then getting your hands on a copy of virtual PC is the only way to go. I got a version off of E-bay (Win9 for 20 English Pounds or about 35 Dollars.

The Answer Stealing comment was for the Email you sent to me...

I was not talking about about the Pc Person comment and I never called anyone anything - I was simply warning against taking advice at face value about Mac's. It is good advice.

Tell me does the emulation software you use work? If so what programs are you running through it?
I actually prefer PCs (AMD) but for 4 years I worked as an Mac engineer so I got to know them fairly well and I have not experienced anything running Windows on apples with any sucess except Virtual Pc and it is because of the unique way it works with the Motorola chipsets.

About virtual PC - the description from the company is worded to make it easy to explain without getting to technical. I assure it is NOT a emulation in the truest sense. When you are running the (windows..)OS it is running pure. That is why you can remove the Mac OS and it will still work, but, whatever..

Anyway you look at it I came across sounding bad but it was really sort of a joke because of the Email you sent to me which I assume was a joke as well - I figured you would understand the humor but as so often is the case with this type of media the humor was lost.
So sorry.

Wow - lots of responses here. I run Virtual PC on my Mac. Once Virtual PC is installed on the Mac, you can load Windows.

Virtual PC (VPC) runs like any other software on a Mac. It emulates the Intel chip. With Intel inside, load Windows and then load Windows programs.

So VPC runs under Mac OS. Windows runs under VPC. Windows programs run under VPC.

Don't reformat the HD - you need to be able to run Mac OS first.
